Can Bad Players Hurt You?

In seeking to win Blackjack, many players become frightened and suspicious of the surrounding players. Many myths are sold to unwary souls, but one of the most popular of the Blackjack myths is that bad players at your table can hurt you.

Many people believe that those players who do not make correct calls or bet improperly can hurt them. However, this is simply not true. There is a good reason for these beliefs though. Although a bad player cannot directly hurt you, they may make stupid mistakes that affect your winnings.

Despite the fears of dealing with bad players, you can avoid these completely by watching the players at a table before you join or going to an empty table and playing only against the dealer.

Third-Base Players

Third base players, on the other hand, can potentially hurt you. The third base player sits at the far end to the dealer’s right and receives the final card before the dealer receives a card. A good player sitting in this seat can help assure that the dealer receives a card that will help all of the players at the table.

A bad player in this position can actually hurt you and themselves if they have not been paying attention to what is going on in the game. Before joining a game already in progress, watch the third base player to see if he or she seems to know what to do in order to help everyone at the table.

Playing Alone

Every once in a while, you may find a Blackjack table open where there is only a dealer. Go to this table! The odds of winning at Blackjack greatly increase when you are playing only the dealer. Many people are intimidated by this situation, but you are the only one in control of the game other than the dealer.

Finding an empty table may be the key to your success when playing Blackjack. You raise your odds of winning by playing only against the dealer, and you do not have to worry about how other players’ actions will affect you.
